FAQ

What are Claude Code skills?

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: YAML frontmatter with a name and description, then instructions. Claude Code loads a skill automatically when your request matches its description, or you run it directly with /skill-name.

Where do the skills get installed?

Either in your repo at .claude/skills/ so your whole team gets them through git, or in ~/.claude/skills/ for every project on your machine. The installer does both and backs up anything with the same name.

Will they override Claude Code's built-in commands?

No. The names were chosen to avoid bundled skills like /code-review and /debug.

Do they work outside Claude Code?

The frontmatter uses only the portable Agent Skills fields (name and description), so the same folders can be uploaded as skills on claude.ai.
